Crate Digging 101
In the first edition of 'Crate Digging,' tips are given on just how to get into the overwhelming world of record collecting.
This is for all you nubile hipsters who happen to be new to searching for vinyl treasures in the record store racks. This activity is more commonly referred to as crate digging.
First off, I commend you on your appreciation of the vinyl experience. Records represent the best way to enjoy tunes. The size of the album allows for creative artistic covers and sleeve design, and 20 minutes a side goes by just about right (most times, depending on what you got going on as you dig your jams)...

We've Got You Covered: Ruby Isle, Fleet Foxes and White Winter Hymnal
Ruby Isle covers a very different version of 'White Winter Hymnal.'
Fleet Foxes put out one of the best albums of 2008, led into battle by the melodic and beautiful “White Winter Hymnal.” The lead single was heralded by pretty much every publication and was even named the best song of 2008 in some parts. The popularity of “White Winter Hymnal” spawned, I’m assuming, many many covers. However, I bet you haven’t heard one this different.
Ruby Isle – who put out covers pretty regularly, took their cuts at “White Winter Hymnal” and turned it into a pretty danceable tune. The great, simple beginning of the orginal has now been replaced by a robot – and the changes only keep coming after that. Have a listen to Ruby Isle’s version of “White Winter Hymnal” below.

Getting To Know: Austin Crane
Austin Crane just wanted to have fun - it appears success was also on their plate.
Ever heard of the small town band that made it out? Four guys who used to play in coffee shops are now getting reviewed on major sites and headlining mid-sized tours throughout the country. They’re even planning to hit up a seven-show stint in Europe before the year is out. Ever heard this story?
Of course you have, and so have Austin Crane (the band, not just the front man)...
