News for Now
Did anything happen this weekend besides Lollapalooza? Time to find out.
I swear, life did happen in the midst of Lady GaGa's giant cock and Arcade Fire's Arcade Fire-ness. People went to the movies! To see a flick that I have yet to hear anything about. Seriously, this is freaking me out. Some movie called The Other Guys won the box office war this weekend with $35.5 million. BUT WHAT IS IT? Apparently, it features Will Farrell and Marky Mark. Other than that, I have no idea. Up until this point, I thought my not owning a TV wouldn't be an issue. I was gravely mistaken. To the Best Buy!
OK, I can sort of understand not knowing about a movie--without a TV, how will I see previews? But not knowing about the upcoming Weezer album? Besides actively trying to block it from entering my brain, there's no real excuse. I didn't absolutely despise their last album, but I certainly wasn't impressed. However, Lost fans might like it? It's called Hurley, cover art = a huge picture of Jorge Garcia's face, and it drops on September 14 via Epitaph.
I feel bad for robots and hipsters--they've kind of mutually hijacked one another. It's hard for most people to think of a hipster that doesn't like robots, and, well, robots do love a good skinny jean. Anyway, as much as I hate to feed into stereotypes, I can't really think of anything hipper than this sentence--the soundtrack to I'm Here, Spike Jonze's upcoming short film about robots in love features Animal Collective, Sleigh Bells, Girls, and Lost Trees (composed of YYY's Nick Zinner, Flea, and an L.A. artist by the name of Aska Matsumiya. Check out those jams on October 5.
