Business Casual Superstar

If you type "Chri" into Google image search, Christina Hendricks is the first thing that comes up. Before "Christ." Jesus should have shown off that hourglass figure more, yo.

I was all set to put together an AWESOME, big, fat post today, the kind of post that's so fat with awesome that it doesn't take its shirt off when it goes swimming. I was going to make my own fanmix, like the one I shared last time that someone made for Lindsay Bluth of Arrested Development fame. I was going to have cover art and links to the YouTube videos of the songs I picked (because providing you with MP3 copies that you could download violates copyrights and as a third year law student, I can't enable that) and I was going to have little reasons for why I picked the song that all started with "Because" and were in fact sentence fragments.

But now I find myself in Gattlinburg, Tennessee, and I have very little Interwebz access, and I'll be on the road all day on Tuesday, so I have no time. So instead, we're just going to do something quick and simple, but still lots of fun.

Because fandom is supposed to be fun, you guys!

No, it's not. Fandom is srs bzns.

:-|

At least, this is what I'm told.

Anyway, today I'm tackling Mad Men, AMC's hit show about ad agency executives, starring the dashing Jon Hamm as Don Draper. Christina Hendricks plays vixen secretary Joan Holloway on this show, and her character is the one I'm tackling today. You know who I'm talking about - it's hard to miss Joan.

That's right: Joan has enormous sweater puppies. And she shows them off in the understated, classy, but still sexy way that was typical of fashion in that time period. (Isn't it the 1940s? I don't watch the show. I've been in a fight with AMC ever since they tried to convince me in 2000 that "Speed" was an American Movie Classic. And in 2002 that "Troy" was an American Movie Classic...EXCEPT THAT IT WAS MADE ONLY TWO YEARS PRIOR TO THAT AIRING WTF AMC WTF.)

Joan usually wears bright jeweltones, or a jeweltone with an earthy color to tone it down a bit. But what if you want to pull off her style, but those vibrant colors aren't your thing? Today I've put together a look that's black and white, but still typical of Joan's style.

Take a look.

Alex Marie Tasha Dress ......... $38.70 Rampage Nikki Pumps in Black Croc .......... $39 Cheap Monday Bullet Necklace .......... $15

This is indeed a dress, not two separates smushed together. It's got that great pencil skirt and that spread neck top that's typical of a lot of Joan's dresses and separates. I paired it with black crocodile-embossed shoes, and since she always wears a gold pen around her neck on a chain, I found this hilarious necklace that mimics that effect.

And, to help you out a bit more, I also found a YT tutorial for a Joan Holloway hairstyle! Click the picture to get to the video.

And what would this post be without some fandom fun? Check out these fanvids.

Again, click the picture and you'll be redirected to the video.

And since I'm hiking up the Smoky Mountains tomorrow (which is Monday for me; this post was written on Sunday), I have to leave it at that. Have fun adding some 1940s flair to your wardrobe!
