The Week in Geek
Guillermo del Toro is incredibly talented, but "The Haunted Mansion"? Really? Someone better have their insides eaten by a monster within 2 minutes of the start of that movie.
Guillermo del Toro Gets In On The Disney Action
Fantasy director Guillermo del Toro announced at Comic Con last week that he will be writing and directing a feature for Disney based on the ride the Haunted Mansion. Now, I don’t really remember what the hell the Haunted Mansion is. I’m assuming from the name it’s a haunted mansion with ghosts and stuff. It’s sounds pretty lame but then again, Pirates of the Caribbean was a lame ride and look how bad ass Gore Verbinski made that look. Del Toro expressed his interest in the Haunted Mansion during his slot at Comic Con. “Dark imagery is an integral part of the Walt Disney legacy. After all, Disney himself was the father of some really chilling moments and characters - think Chernabog from Fantasia or Maleficent as the Dragon or the Evil Queen in Snow White,” said del Toro. “I couldn't be more excited to be a part of my own adaptation of the original theme park attraction Walt envisioned and that remains- for me- the most desirable piece of real estate in the whole world!" Yeah we get it del Toro. You like freaky imagery and monsters and shit, which makes this Haunted Mansion right perfect for you. As long as this stays on the path of the Pirates series Haunted Mansion should be pretty interesting to watch. No word on when the Haunted Mansion adaptation will start pre-production yet but I’m sure del Toro and Disney will let everyone know in due time.
Stonehenge Finds A Friend
I hate to bust America like this, but if I ever am in need of some news I don’t go to CNN. I go to the BBC. If BBC had Anderson Cooper, then I would be set for life. Alas they do not and I move on with my life. The BBC reported on Thursday that archaeologists at Stonehenge have found a second henge structure that parallels the existing stone monument. This new structure is said to have been made of timber posts set in large pits with a burial mound in the middle of the circle and was located about 2950 feet away from Stonehenge. Now, I know what you’re thinking. How the hell did we not see this before? Well, wood rots. The environment changes. Things get covered up and forgotten. But when you have crazy scanners like the Stonehenge team does, these things can be found again. Data is still being collecting in the areas surrounding Stonehenge, but experts speculate that this second henge was probably used as a cemetery. The team doesn’t have plans to start excavating yet and is instead doing virtual scans to see what else may lie in the region. What does this mean? One, it means all those stupid conspiracy theorists who say Stonehenge was made by aliens can finally shove off. This new discovery kind of negates that. Two, it means that the mysteries of Stonehenge are finally being discovered and possibly one day my great grandkids will know why the hell someone built this thing. And then I will look down from heaven (or hell, there’s still time for me to figure it out) and laugh because it’ll probably be something not cool at all.
