News for the Now
I may have been gone for a week, but like herpes, I keep comin' back!
Hey, y’all! Pardon my radio silence for the past week (and my Britney Spears-ish greeting), but I’ve been settling into a new city, so things have been a little hectic. But you didn’t come here for a ranting about the perils of moving, did you? Of course not! By the by, if you did come here for that, LET A SISTA KNOW. I’ve got plenty of things to say about moving. But now that that’s out of my system, I’m ready to tackle the wide world of music news. Let’s get to it! So, remember how awhile ago I mentioned some stuff about a new Stereolab album and a solo debut from Laetitia Sadier? Here’s some more stuff that mostly concerns Sadier. Her album has a title! Expect The Trip on September 21 from Drag City. It’s safe to say that I’m quite interested to hear this.
Given that I’ve got another news byte about an upcoming solo album from a female artist, I’m dangerously close to making some sort of “Single Ladies” pun. I think I can hold it in, but you may want to skim the rest of this article just in case it slips out. Anyway, now I’ve got details about Corin Tucker’s album. It’s called 1,000 Years, and as I probably have mentioned before, it’s coming out on October 5. Fun fact: a few of the songs were originally recorded for the Twilight: New Moon soundtrack, but when the movie kids passed on them, she decided to keep them for her album. I think that’s going to turn out to be an excellent call.
And now for some sad news. Harvey Pekar, acclaimed comic book memoirist and jazz critic, passed away at the age of 70. No cause of death has been released yet. Pekar was most known for his underground comic book series American Splendor. His incredible talent and wit will certainly be missed.
