Alexis Bledel might be the whitest human being on earth.
All right, nerds, I'm back this week with a TV character that I'm sure a lot of you adore: Rory Gilmore. As for me, Rory is more of a frenemy than a BFF. I loved her in the first 3.5 seasons of Gilmore Girls, and then she slept with Dean, who was married (I'm sorry, but WHO DITCHES JESS MARIANO FOR DEAN FORRESTER?! WHO?), and the show pretty much started tanking and grew progressively 'whiter' (cue the ZOMG REVERSE RACISM comments - go for it, it'll make you feel better), and I started watching the show not for entertainment value but for trainwreck value.
But whatever. Rory still had a really cute sense of style...sometimes. Sometimes she looked hideous. But even when the pieces themselves were kind of fug, she had a good sense of how to play with colors and make them work. Look at me, talking about her like she actually picked those clothes out instead of some harried twenty-something in wardrobe.
What can I say? It's early and I need kona coffee, preferably hooked up to me intravenously.
So let's see what I came up with in terms of a low-key, running-around-the-paper-office kind of day for Rory Gilmore.
Radiant Bouquet Shirt in Spring Green .......... $24.50 Gabardine Trousers .......... $15 Linen Cotton Wrap Cardigan in Natural .......... $34.99 Vintage 1960s Cream Pumps .......... $20
I found this shirt at the Limited, which has been selling some really, really great work appropriate blouses and sweaters lately! Normally they're good for a couple button downs, but their stuff has been super cute and super plentiful recently, and the people rejoiced.
It's a nice, warm green color that I really love (I would have preferred a deep emerald, but the Stones tell me I can't always get what I want, so there we have it). I paired it with brown pants because brown works well with green, and also because it occurred to me one day that Rory wore far more brown pants than she did black. So do with that what you will.
Rory often wore cardigans over her tees or blouses, especially in the paper office, and I totally get that. I remember my days of running around the paper office at school and absolutely needing something to throw on before I froze to death. But then again, I'm cold allllll the time. Most women are. It's the only defect of our kind. THE ONLY DEFECT.

I'm watching ALL of you.
Anyway, I liked this one from J.Crew. It's a wrap cardigan in a pretty oatmeal color, light enough to keep you warm without being too hot and stuffy.
The shoes were kind of difficult, but Etsy came to the rescue once again! For those of you that aren't aware, Etsy is like Ebay, but for handmade goods, and there's no bidding. So it's not at all like Ebay. METAPHOR FAIL.
Teal deer, it's an online marketplace that sells furniture, glassware, clothes, shoes, jewelry, everything, and it's all handmade. There are lots of vegan leather goods on there, too, for those of you that are into that.
I found these vintage shoes on there and just loved them. They're totally something right out of Rory's closet. Not her everyday wear closet, but they're totally sitting around in the back, just waiting for that otherwise normal-eh-whatever outfit to add some interest to. The colors work with the brown and beige motif I've structured around that eye-catching shirt, and I love the belt-inspired pattern with the little buckle on the back. Lovely!
And there we have a work-appropriate outfit inspired by Rory Gilmore. Who I hate. So there.
