Business Casual Superstar
When you're in California you dress in a lot of floral patterns to indicate your approval of the sunny weather. When you're in Alaska, you wear bison skin. These are the things I have learned from television.
My new show to power through when I'm trying to avoid doing my Federal Criminal Law reading is "The Big Bang Theory." And I LOVE it, you guys. It's a show about nerds! Is there anything better?! We're finally being represented in the mainstream media, and not just as the peripheral character that the main characters go to when they need to pull off some kind of high-tech prank.
I mean, don't get me wrong, we like doing anything that involves the phrase 'high-tech,' but occasionally, we like to be the protagonists.
Penny is played by Kaley Cuoco, who also played the oldest daughter in "8 Simple Rules." The TV show was a drag, but the book by Bruce Cameron was actually pretty funny.
She lives across the hall from Leonard, her love interest, and the delightfully asexual alpha-nerd Sheldon, who has shown me that it's okay to be an oddball. And for that I thank him. She is a Nebraska girl trying to make it as an actress in California, and wears a lot of floral prints or dotted patterns, always in bright colors. She loves her short shorts and denim mini skirts, which I presume are employed to remind us that the show is set in Pasadena.
But such outfits are inappropriate for the office, so here's what I came up with:
Michael Kors A-Line Skirt .......... $34.90 Sag Harbor Abstract Tee in Palm .......... $16.99 Lace Trim Cami in Blue .......... $7.50 Nine West MAB Pump in Black .......... $29.99
I went with a breezy A-line skirt instead of a fitted pencil skirt, which I usually go for. It's just a little less formal, a little more free-spirited, and reflects more of that California flair I'm sure we're supposed to take away from Penny's outfits on the show.
I paired the skirt with an abstract green tee. It's got one of those huge keyholes, though, so I figured the camisole was necessary to make it work-appropriate. I used these shoes in my weekly grab bag on Sunday, so I pulled them out again because I just think they're so pretty and dainty. Penny wears a lot of flip flops, cork wedges, and Uggs, none of which are appropriate for the office, so I went with these instead because I like them. Screw Penny.
>:(
And there we have it!
